The Andre Film Festival invites filmmakers from all walks of life to showcase their creativity and storytelling in the heart of Washington, D.C. This exciting event celebrates the power of cinema across a diverse range of categories, including Narrative Features, Documentary Features, Local Features, and Student Features (high school level). In addition to feature films, we welcome Narrative Shorts, Documentary Shorts, Local Minis, and Student Minis—giving a platform to voices from both emerging and established filmmakers.
This festival is committed to highlighting the best in independent filmmaking, with a focus on community, artistic expression, and elevating the work of local and student filmmakers. The festival aims to be an inspiring experience where creativity flourishes, providing both the opportunity for public screenings and meaningful recognition for all participants.

Feature Categories
Narrative Features
Narrative Features are fictional films that tell a story through characters, dialogue, and plot development. These films are longer than 40 Minutes in length and can cover any genre, including drama, comedy, thriller, and more. Filmmakers are encouraged to explore innovative narratives that engage and captivate audiences.
Documentary Features
Documentary Features are non-fiction films that provide a factual representation of real-life events, people, or issues. Longer than 40 Minutes , these films aim to inform, inspire, or provoke thought through authentic storytelling and real-world insights. We welcome a diverse range of topics and styles that highlight the power of documentary filmmaking.
Short and Mini Categories
Narrative Shorts
Narrative Shorts are fictional films that convey a story within a shorter format, lasting between 10 and 20 minutes. These films can experiment with various storytelling techniques, genres, and themes, showcasing the creativity and innovation of filmmakers in a condensed timeframe.
Documentary Shorts
Documentary Shorts are non-fiction films ranging from 10 to 20 minutes that explore real-life subjects, events, or issues. These films focus on concise storytelling, offering insights or perspectives on a specific topic while engaging the audience in a meaningful way.
Local Minis
Local Minis are ultra-short films created by filmmakers from the DMV area, lasting less than 5 minutes. These quick yet impactful films can be narrative or documentary in nature and highlight the creativity and talent of local artists within a brief format.
Student Minis
Student Minis are short films made by high school students, lasting less than 5 minutes. This category encourages young filmmakers to express their ideas and creativity in a concise manner, showcasing their unique perspectives and storytelling skills.

Andre Film Festival Submission Rules & Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Length of Films:
Features: 31-90 minutes
Shorts: 10-30 minutes
Minis: Less than 5 minutes
Student Submissions: Students must provide a valid student ID by emailing a copy for confirmation.
Local Films: To qualify as a local entry, the film must have a director, producer, or director of photography (DP) living in the DMV area (Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia).
We accept films in any language, but non-English films must include English subtitles.
Films may be submitted regardless of prior screenings or online availability.
Completion Date: Films completed on or after January 1, 2023, are eligible.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All films must be submitted through our official submission platforms by the stated deadlines.
Entry fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.
Films must be the original work of the director(s) or producer(s), aside from copyrighted music (which is allowed with proper licensing).
Submission Deadlines: Deadlines will close at 11:59 PM EST on the respective date.
Screening Copies: Entrants are responsible for delivering their final screening copy and any additional materials requested by the festival team on time.
IF ACCEPTED
Accepted filmmakers will be notified by email and must confirm their participation by the given deadline.
Filmmakers must ensure they hold all rights to their films, including music and other media used.
We do not provide screening fees or travel expenses for filmmakers attending the festival. However, we will help connect filmmakers with affordable lodging options if requested.
OTHER DETAILS
The festival will take place in August 2025 in Washington, D.C. (location to be announced).
The festival reserves the right to withhold awards in any category if an appropriate selection cannot be made based on the panel's scores.
